Digging Plastic and other Waste out of an Old Landfill

Due to landfill space running out in a majour city in India, they are having to dig it up and run the material through a waste to energy plant, not only to generate power for the city, but to get more landfill volume back.  This is very inefficient management of waste, but given the limited options we had years ago to dispose of waste that is what some places are having to do now.  If the plastic had been biodegradable or collected out in the first place to go to the waste incineration plant, there would not have to be this 2nd handling of waste.  Full Story
