Darebin, which takes in Northcote, Thornbury and Preston, grabbed the city’s attention after it voted to ban balloons, along with other single-use plastics, on council land this week.
But Port Phillip, Banyule and Monash councils have already passed balloon bans in light of research showing they are polluting waterways and killing wildlife.
