This advertisement was to be air on Australian Channel Nine TV.   At the last minute the Channel  pulled the ad.  Even though the ad satisfied all the government requirements for advertising on public television, it was still pulled.  Reasons mentioned was Channel Nine could lose advertising by Coke so it was not in the Channel’s financial interest.
This is essentially blackmail by one corporation to another.   A TV channel even though it is a private company, could be argued is part of a triopoly (only 3 main channels in Australia) and therefore has a public obligation to provide fair and unbiased information to the public, not be able to censor its content to maximize its profits at the expense of the people it is broadcasting to.  Coke’s products reply on constant marketing.  If they stop marketing on one of the three major channels in Australia they will lose market share.  Hence their blackmail threat is somewhat of a hollow threat.  Channel Nine should be ashamed and have the decency to stand up for the people of the country they operate in.
