The Specialists for Take-back Solutions

Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) was founded in 1990 as the first dual system, and is nowadays a leading provider of take-back systems. These include not only close-to-home collection and recovery of sales packages, but also eco-friendly, cost-efficient recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment and of transport packages, facility waste disposal service and deposit clearing. The DSD subsidiary German Association for closed-loop economy and raw materials (“Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreislaufwirtschaft und Rohstoffe mbH”,  DKR) belongs to Europe’s largest raw material traders.

The Green Dot (“Der Grüne Punkt “) is worldwide protected and one of the most widely used trademarks.

In order to liberate industrial firms and retailers from their individual take-back and recovery obligations under the German Packaging Ordinance, DSD established, on the basis of this ordinance, a second (dual) disposal system besides the public-sector waste disposal service. As the first system of its kind worldwide, it has since 1991 been providing nationwide collection of used sales packages like yoghurt tubs, ketchup bottles or beverage cartons and obtains raw materials from them for the closed-cycle economy.

The tasks involved in collecting, sorting and recovering used sales packages are financed using the participation fees paid by the manufacturers who put the sales packages concerned into circulation. The fees are graduated in accordance with the material and weight of the packages concerned: the less the package weighs, the lower the fee will be.
