Områ is equipped with Tomra sorting technology at a scale not previously deployed in Norway. The facility will enable Norway to fulfil its national ambition to take care of its own plastic waste. It will be an important part of the new national infrastructure for the collection and recycling of plastic. It should also provide motivation for further investments within the recycling industry nationally.
The new plant will accept mixed plastic waste sourced from municipalities and mechanically separated and recovered. The plastic waste will be sorted into seven types of plastic which will be processed into high-quality fractions for recycling.
