Nearly a month after the New York City Council voted to approve a tax on plastic and paper shopping bags, the New York State Senate passed a bill on Tuesday that prevents cities all across the state from doing just that.

“The last thing New Yorkers need is another regressive tax,” Felder said. “I’ve been disgusted every time I’ve heard the absurd plastic bag tax legislation introduced. “This tax placed an undue financial burden on countless low- and middle-income residents who already struggle.”

It is hard to believe that an elected official could be so naive.    This is nothing like a tax.  People don’t have to take bags!   If you don’t take a bag, guess what?  There is no charge.  That is exactly what a bag fee is meant to foster.  it is mean to cut consumption down by over 80% which is a great thing.  What this looney senator is thinking nonsense.  Unless they have a different interest at heart that is.
