Getting rid of plastic bags is the only real answer. Recycling is done at a very small rate, about 5%. This article says people reuse them, but using them once the dumping them is not the real definition of reuse. These bags contaminate recycling streams when people put their recyclables in a plastic bag then put it in the recycle bin. The bags clog recycling machines.
The plastic bags are the number 1 item in landfills showing their ‘reuse’ is not really reuse but delayed disposal by about a week. Not a good situation.
Getting rid of the bags by direct bans or a charge is what is really needed.
