The Australian Government announced in the 2022 budget that it is spending $83.1 million over five years on Australia’s waste and recycling capabilities to help reach 2030 waste targets.

A further $18.2 million will go towards improving awareness of correct recycling techniques and developing a new ‘ReMade in Australia’ brand to give consumers confidence in buying products that have been re-manufactured in Australia.

A $60.4 million budget commitment to develop new plastics recycling technology and advanced recycling solutions through the Recycling Modernisation Fund (RMF) was announced earlier this month. The funding takes Commonwealth investment in the RMF to $250 million.

Only the years to come will show if this made any difference.
