Bag ban boost for liners Tasmania News – The Mercury – The Voice of Tasmania.

Critics of the ban jumped on the statistics, saying the banhad simply resulted in more thicker, bigger bags ending up in landfill.

But Do Something! director Jon Dee said that was a furphy.

“The reduction in plastic bags has been massively reduced.”

We used 580 million plastic bags a year before the ban was imposed. Pullinger said it would not take Tasmanians long to get used to living without plastic check-out bags.

Plus by not giving out free plastic bags, and if people want to purchase bin liner bags we ought to be selling biodegradable (NOT degradeable) bin liner bags that will then biodegrade away in a landfill.   That way we have no plastic bags remaining for 100’s of years or impeding landfill action.   That is win-win for all.
