If these large packaging companies could see the damage their products were doing to developing countries who have very little infrastructure in place to deal with the plastic waste of their products, perhaps they would indeed focus on using different materials.   Their current focus of lowering production costs and production time so they can produce more plastic and faster is not a good scenario for the world to have.

Plastic waste in developing countries is horrendous.  It is everywhere, on land, in trees, in mini road side sump sites, in water ways, in their rivers and along ocean shores.  It is not biodegradable so it accumulates more and more every year.  The CEO’s of these companies sit in their plush offices far removed from these communities and are immune from the consequences of their actions.   They need to take walk around some of these plastic plagued areas.   They need to be held partially responsible for this plastic waste debacle.  This is not a good benefit the West brings to the third world.
