Industry groups promoting ‘self regulatory schemes’ as the best method for their members to control litter of plastic and other bottles. When the actual counting of the amount of waste recycled is performed, it turns out that the industry groups are significantly misleading the public in the amount of recycling that is actually done. Are we surprised? Why would anyone think that ‘self regulation’ of a problem will fix the problem?
