It is interesting to read the two comments in this article.  One from Barbara who has a long term outlook for the betterment of the planet and our way of life and the other from Jay who is only looking at his own issues right now.  Not sure why he would make much of a distinction between petroleum bags and natural gas bags.   Gas is a little cleaner yes but they are both hydrocarbons and have carbon emissions and both foster this dependency of hydrocarbons that we need to get off.

Jay ought to know that only about 2% of bags are recycled, most go to landfills or litter even after the last 10 years of trying to change it.   So putting a few more recycling bins in a shop won’t change this.  You are just as likely to forget your bags to recycle as you are to bring your reusable bags.  It doesn’t work, so a bag ban is the best option to go to change this undesirable position we have gotten into now.  Businesses will experience a change as people get used to the new way, then it will all be forgotten and it will be business as usual.  Remember businesses are in the business of selling goods not in the business of handing out free bags.
