‘Shun plastic bag’ drive at malls – Khaleej Times.

The Dubai Municipality on Thursday launched a six-month long awareness campaign under the title ‘Say No to Plastic Bags’ at the Cooperative Society of Al Etihad Mall, along with a number of its branches in Dubai. The campaign aimed at educating the public on the ways of reducing plastic bag usage and its waste.

This is to implement the directives of the Ministry of Environment and Water to reduce the use of all types of plastic bags among the public, especially the plastic bags distributed by shopping centres, as well as to completely stop  non-biodegradable plastic products, which cause damage to both health and the environment.

This is an excellent program.  We all know it is far better to not use plastic bags at all rather than try to make them degrade or biodegrade.  Plastic bags from shops are entirely unnecessary.  We got duped into using them for the last 20 years but now the issue is coming back to claim its toll on our envrionment.
