Symphony: Public should not be deprived of plastic bags | Packaging News | Jobs | Production | Design | Innovation.

Putting a surcharge on a plastic bag is a very good move to try to control the huge environmental damage these items do.  It should be 10 cents or more to make people pay reasonable attention.

What is clear in this article that Symphony care more about selling more product for their own profits than they do about keeping the Thames clean.  Even if their bags did break down in 2 years are we meant to accept littered plastic bags causing such an eyesore for 2 years is OK as they will break down into little piece of plastic and float down the Thames to the ocean is OK?

Why do they always say when the bag reaches the end of its ‘useful life’ if will fragment away.   Symphony do not know the ‘useful life time’ on any ones bag.  For some it may be 5 minutes then it is dumped but it takes another 2 years as litter before it breaks down somewhere?  For others they may use if for much longer then it falls apart on them while still in use.  Their ‘useful life’ claim is purely a marketing spin.   There are much better ways they could promote their products.

A surcharge on a bag does not deny any one of anything.  If a shopper really wants a bag they will take one still.  Symphony should be ashamed of such a self serving response here.
