A levy on takeaway cups will be announced this week

All non-recyclable coffee cups are set to be banned in Ireland by 2026 under plans by Ossian Smyth, a minister of state with responsibility for the circular economy.

In the Seanad last week, Smyth said: “I expect that, in the same way we banned ten single-use plastic products last July — including plastic forks, knives and straws — we will ban coffee cups altogether within about four years.”
